This category brings together five Lactoflor products chosen for seasonal support: three synbiotics with live Bulgarian strains, probiotic lozenges, and Sevida with beta-glucan, zinc, and selenium. Choosing between them comes down to six verifiable factors: strains, number of live bacteria, form, capsule, duration of the course, and age.
Why the topic of immunity leads to the topic of the gut
The gut is the place with the densest population of microorganisms in the human body and, at the same time, the largest surface where the body encounters the outside world. Everything we ingest passes through there. That is why when talking about immune support through food, the conversation almost always reaches the composition of the intestinal microflora.
Microflora is not a constant. It changes with diet, sleep, stress levels, antibiotic use, and age. Probiotics and synbiotics are a way to introduce live microorganisms that are naturally present in this environment. Prebiotics, such as inulin, do not contain bacteria, but rather a substance that feeds those already present.
A second, separate approach is to work not through bacteria, but through ingredients with a recognized role in the normal function of the immune system. Zinc and selenium are exactly that. Lactoflor Sevida is based on them, plus beta-glucan from oyster mushroom and larch arabinogalactan.
Six criteria when choosing an immunity product
- Number of strains.More strains mean wider coverage, not automatically a better formula. In this category, the range is from 4 to 9 strains.
- Number of live bacteria (CFU).From 2 to 20 billion per dose. More important than the number itself is whether the manufacturer indicates at what point it was measured.
- Strain identification.A strain without an alphanumeric code is not an identified strain. An example of an identified one: Lactobacillus bulgaricus LKZ-200.
- Capsule.Stomach acid is the main obstacle. The acid-resistant DRcaps capsule starts to break down about 45 minutes later than a standard one.
- Duration.Probiotic courses here are 2 to 4 weeks. The prophylactic intake of Sevida is described as 12 weeks. The packaging must cover the entire period.
- Age and form.A lozenge is suitable from 3 years of age, capsules from 6, and Sevida from 10 years of age.
The products in this category
Lactoflor Opti6, 30 and 12 capsules
Synbiotic with 9 strains of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria plus prebiotic inulin from chicory root. 20 billion lyophilized bacteria in a capsule, in an acid-resistant DRcaps capsule. The strains are isolated from ecologically clean sources in the Bulgarian wilderness. The 12-capsule pack covers a short course, while the 30-capsule pack covers the full 2 to 4 weeks. See Opti6 30 capsulesand Opti6 12 capsules.
Lactoflor BioPlus capsules
Synbiotic with 7 probiotic strains from the genera Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, and Bifidobacterium, plus prebiotic inulin, in a pack of 60 DRcaps capsules. The formula includes the Bulgarian strain Lactobacillus bulgaricus LKZ-200, isolated from bloody cranesbill. The strains are cultivated in their natural environment—milk. See BioPlus capsules.
Lactoflor BioPlus lozenges
20 lozenges that are sucked after meals. Probiotic strains remain in contact with the oral mucosa, and some of the bacteria continue to the digestive tract. Contains the same Bulgarian strain LKZ-200 with proven antimicrobial activity. The only form in the portfolio suitable from 3 years of age. See BioPlus lozenges.
Lactoflor Sevida
Not a probiotic and does not contain live bacteria. The formula combines Betox-93 beta-glucan extracted from oyster mushroom, ResistAid arabinogalactan, zinc, and selenium in 30 capsules. Zinc and selenium are ingredients with a recognized role in the normal function of the immune system. The prophylactic regimen is described as 12 weeks, which is a significantly longer period than a probiotic course. See Sevida.
How to take them
- Opti6: for adults and children over 6 years old, 1 to 2 capsules after a meal, at least 2 hours after taking other medications. Course 2 to 4 weeks.
- BioPlus capsules: for adults and children over 12 years old, 1 capsule twice daily. For children from 6 to 12 years old, 1 to 2 capsules daily. For children under 6 years old, the contents can be poured into a little water or milk.
- BioPlus lozenges: for adults and children over 3 years old, 1 to 2 lozenges daily, sucked after meals.
- Sevida, prophylaxis: for children over 10 years old, 1 capsule daily before a meal for 12 weeks. For adults, 2 times 1 capsule daily before a meal for 12 weeks.
- General rule for all probiotic capsules: do not take with hot drinks. The temperature reduces the viability of the bacteria.
Frequently asked questions
Which immunity product should I choose if I don't know where to start
If you are looking for daily microflora care, start with a synbiotic with a broader strain profile and a prebiotic in its composition. If you are looking for a seasonal formula for a longer period, Sevida works on a different principle and contains no bacteria. The two approaches are not mutually exclusive.
Can a probiotic and Sevida be taken together
The compositions do not overlap: one introduces bacteria, the other does not contain any. However, check that you are not taking zinc or selenium from another supplement to avoid doubling your daily intake. If in doubt, consult a pharmacist.
How many billion bacteria are enough
There is no universal number. In this category, the range is from 2 billion per capsule for Probiotic to 20 billion for Opti6. A larger number means higher density, but does not automatically make the formula more suitable for you. The strain profile and the form are at least as important.
What is DRcaps and why does it matter
DRcaps is an acid-resistant, delayed-release capsule. It starts to break down about 45 minutes later than a standard one, which means that a larger portion of the bacteria reaches the gut instead of encountering stomach acid immediately. The capsule is plant-based and vegetarian.
Which product is suitable for a child
BioPlus lozenges are suitable from 3 years of age. BioPlus capsules have a regimen from 6 years of age, and under 6, the contents can be poured into water or milk. For babies and younger children, see the separate category for child health, where the formula is developed specifically for the child's microflora.
Does it matter that the strains are Bulgarian
The argument is not patriotic, but production-related. The strains have been selected, studied, and produced in the same environment in the company's own laboratory since 1992, which provides more predictable control over viability until the moment of intake. There is no evidence that geographical origin alone determines the effect.
